Project Background

Nagpur city is one of the important city in Maharashtra as well as in a country and it is located at geographical center of India. The city is well connected by rail, road and air with rest of the country. Three National Highways are passing through the city. Nagpur is also the second capital of Maharashtra state. To cater the increasing importance of city and manifold increase in the vehicle population and thereby causing frequent traffic jam and future requirement, a scheme named “Nagpur city Integrated Road Development Program” was prepared under Build - Operate - Transfer basis. MSRDC has been declared as “Entrepreneur” for this project vide Government resolution dated 23rd February 2001. Estimated cost of this project is Rs. 350 crores. Funds required for this scheme will be through contribution from various agencies and partly through toll collection. The work involves construction and widening of roads, construction of Rob / flyover. The brief details of the same are as under

Length of the road = 686.55 kms.
Total cost of the project = Rs.700 crores.

After completion of the project the length between the following cities will be reduced as shown

  • Nagpur to Mumbai - 50 kms
  • Amravati to Mumbai - 36 kms
  • Aurangabad to Nasik - 30 kms
  • Aurangabad to Mumbai - 20 kms
  • Shirdi to Mumbai - 20 kms
  • Sinnar to Mumbai - 20 kms

The share of Government of Maharashtra is Rs. 150 crores for the project and Rs. 9 crores for land acquisition while balance requirement of funds will be raised from financial institutions as loan and partly met from toll collection.

The project has been divided into eight consultancy packages and 29 construction packages. Consultants have been appointed for four of the consultancy packages and agencies for ten packages have been fixed and work is under progress. For remaining works the appointment of agencies is in progress.
